Postponed Wedding Blog Series: Sending Out New Invites

Many couples around the world are trying to navigate through the Covid-19 pandemic that is forcing wedding plans into postponements. One of the most important things couples can do during this time is to focus on the items of wedding planning that are in their control, like communicating changes to everyone involved. Vendors, the wedding party, friends, and family members will all be wondering what the plans are (or aren’t), so it’s important to notify them as soon as possible. If new plans have not been decided on just yet, it’s still important to communicate that the original plans will not be taking place.

If your original wedding date is less than two months away, digital communication is acceptable and the most efficient way to get in touch with everyone quickly. Create a digital announcement that is designed and customized to you. Emails and group text messages are the quickest ways to make a wedding postponement announcement. If you have a large invite list, feel free to break them down into groups—relatives, friends, co-workers, etc. You can also use Facebook and Instagram to spread the details—consider using the "Close Friends" feature to limit the message to only your followers who are currently on your guest list.

If your original wedding date is more than two months away, it is recommended that a change the date card be mailed out to your guests. This will serve as the official announcement about the update. A change the date card is simple and includes basic information regarding any wedding or event that has been postponed after save-the-dates and/or invitations have gone out to guests. Keeping wedding guests informed of your plans is important, so that they can save your new date! Change the Date Cards will help you notify guests of the new wedding day plans. Several companies are offering large discounts on printed change the date cards. Some even have “risk free” ordering in case your event date changes again, they will reprint for free! Be sure to find the best website for you and your partner’s needs. The wording used will depend on your style, the situation, and the message you want to send. Choose from dozens of designs that complement any wedding style. Our own in house Graphic Designer, has created FREE Event Change Cards for you to download! You can chose from four different styles of “postponement” card designs, each in two different sizes! Names and date are fully editable. Finally, it is important to update your wedding website as soon as possible with the new date, location and any other information guests may need to know. This new information could include traveling to the venue, or details about the hotel blocks. If the new date is several months to a year out, you can reprint save-the-date cards and wedding invitations based on your time frame and budget.
