Benefits of a Day-of Coordinator from the Extremely Organized Bride

Wedding season is in full swing – our summer brides are handing over the reins, our fall brides are finalizing details, and our winter brides are dreaming of the days they’ll mail their beautiful invitation suites. What better way to express the importance of a wedding planner than to ask one of our very organized brides why she chose us?! Alex Kimura, co-owner of Rebecca’s Wedding Boutique, took the time to tell you why having Morgan as her Day-Of Coordinator was crucial to a successful wedding day.

“I made my wedding planning spreadsheet the day I got engaged, and yes, I still needed a Day-of Coordinator!

As a Type-A, super-organized bride with a clear vision of what I wanted my big day to look like, it was easy for me to start planning and designing my wedding right away. I knew what I wanted everything to look like, and I set my own budget, picked out my vendors, made my detailed vision board, etc., so I knew I didn't need to hire a full-service wedding planner. However, I had always heard people talk about how important it was to have a Day-of Coordinator. But I had grown up in my mom's bridal store AND worked in non-profit event planning for almost a decade, so I was still tempted to just do the entire thing myself.

Thankfully, I decided to listen to the hundreds of former Rebecca's Brides who said that their #1 piece of advice was to hire a Day-Of Coordinator. As soon as I met with Morgan from Essential Details, I knew that I had made the right decision. And then after seeing all she did to help make my wedding day absolutely magical, I can't imagine what I would have done without her!

Here are the reasons I think every bride, especially the most organized ones, need a Day of Coordinator:

WEDDINGS ARE UNLIKE ANY OTHER EVENT

Even though I had professionally planned large-scale events with catering, decor, musical entertainment, etc., I was shocked at how much MORE is needed for a wedding. There are so many specific details that go into making a wedding timeline that I think you would only ever know about if you had previously worked in the wedding coordination industry. It's like directing a highly emotional play with dozens of actors who have had one rehearsal together (AKA you and your wedding party), plus a stage crew that probably has never all worked together or seen where the play is happening until that morning (AKA your vendors that make the event happen like the photographer, florist, DJ, rental company).

Then there is all of the tradition and etiquette to consider, some of which you can just take for granted as a typical "part of the wedding," but that actually takes a lot of decision making, then careful planning and execution to pull off. There is a lot that I would have missed or that would have completely overwhelmed me if I tried to bring all this together myself. My Day-Of Coordinator Morgan used her expertise to create a timeline with me that made my wedding vision a reality.

YOU SHOULD ENJOY YOUR WEDDING, NOT WORK IT

As I'm sure you have heard, your wedding day goes by FAST. My day flew by, and I can't imagine having even LESS time to enjoy it if I had to act as the point person for setting up, cleaning up, or making sure everything ran smoothly during the wedding. As a bride, my energy on my wedding day was focused on this huge life event of getting married, plus needing to get ready, take pictures, and wanting to spend time with my family and friends who were there to celebrate with me. I would have not wanted to step away from those special moments, or have had to ask my loved ones to step away because we had to deal with some kind of logistical issue such as moving all the chairs inside because it looked like it was going to rain (which Morgan and her team had to do).

They handled setting up all my signage, decor, and table settings, coordinated deliveries from vendors, worked alongside my venue and caterer, kept the guests in the right places at the right times, made sure we had time for speeches and did so much more that I probably don't even know about. All I know is that my husband and I, and all of our guests, had an amazing day because Morgan and her team helped everything run so smoothly. And then at the end of the night when we were all done partying? We were able to leave, while they cleaned up and packed up. Incredible!

HAVE SOMEONE YOU TRUST EXECUTE YOUR VISION

Being a very organized bride (and a bit of a perfectionist), I was nervous that someone else wouldn't be able to execute my wedding plans like I had imagined them. But you can't be the bride AND control everything that goes into your wedding day. Hiring a professional Day-Of Coordinator from Essential Details means that you can be at ease knowing that you are passing off all your planning to someone who loves organization just as much as you do.

They can handle your 20 tabs on your spreadsheet or your binder of notes. They will walk through every inch of the venue with you, talk through every second of the day, and come up with the backup to the backup plan. They will make sure that your hard work and preparation doesn't go to waste, and you can trust them to help solve problems that even you couldn't have prepared for (things happen!). I was able to relax and enjoy every minute of my wedding day knowing that Morgan had my back and was going to handle everything. And you know what? It was even more perfect than I had planned.
