5 Ways to Celebrate Galentine's Day!

When the month of February rolls around, everyone starts to panic.

What gift should I buy for my significant other? Will floral shops run out of dozens of red roses if I don’t buy in advance? Is there still time to make a reservation at a nice restaurant? Stores are running low on chocolate… what do I do?

Instead of worrying about the true Valentine’s Day – let’s focus on the day before. According to Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year.” That’s right ladies – I’m talking about Galentine’s Day!!

“February 14th, Valentine’s Day, is about romance. But February 13th, Galentine’s Day, is about celebrating lady friends. It’s wonderful and it should be a National Holiday.”

I couldn’t’ agree more. Galentine’s Day has transformed over the years since Parks and Recreation first aired. If you’ve seen the American sitcom, you know the one and only Leslie Knope. She has a heart of gold and during the show, she termed the phrase “Galentine’s Day” as a way to celebrate the love she has for her female friends. Leslie Knope describes the holiday best: “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”

February 13th is the perfect day to bring that group of girlfriends together for a night. Life gets in the way and it can be hard to keep in touch. I’m going to share some simple ways to celebrate with your girls!

Romantic Comedy Movie Night

During quarantine, we all experienced binge-watching our favorite romantic comedies. Find one you haven’t seen (or even one that you’ve seen a million times) and spend the night laughing and crying with your girls over a good film. Check out this list of best Rom Coms!

Slumber Party

Can we go back to middle school and normalize having sleepovers with your friends no matter what age? Grab a good face mask and stay up too late catching up on what you’ve missed out on.

Mani + Pedi

Who doesn’t love a good manicure? Grab your favorite nail polish and unwind after a long week. Plus, you’ll have freshly painted nails for a sweet date on Valentine’s Day!!

Wine and Chocolate Night

I think we can all agree that wine and chocolate make a great combination. Participate in a wine swap!! Have everyone bring their favorite bottle and favorite sweet snack, and let the fun begin.

Baking Party

If you’re hoping on the sweets train, why not have a baking night? Have every gal bring a different recipe and get to baking!

Show the men that some women do really sit around painting each other’s nails listening to cheesy love songs, and that’s okay! Turn up a Taylor Swift album, sip on a glass of wine, and pour out your heart to your gal pals. It’s your day ladies – celebrate accordingly!
