Essential Tips on Tipping

Let’s be real—money is probably the least exciting part of wedding planning. Budgets, expenses, and unexpected costs can put a damper on your dream day. And after spending so much, the idea of tipping can feel a little overwhelming. But don’t stress—we’re here to help you plan for it early so it doesn’t sneak up on you when budgets get tight!
The good news? Tipping is never required, though in some cases, it’s expected. Think of it as a way to show extra appreciation for vendors who go above and beyond to make your day amazing. Whether it’s the florist who turned your vision into reality, the baker who let you taste-test half their menu, or the photographer who made taking pictures actually fun.
Sometimes a little extra gratitude (or even a thoughtful note or small gift) can mean the world.
Essential Tip #1
It is common that if the vendor is also the owner of their company, a tip is not expected. However, don’t forget to recognize their extraordinary efforts—leaving a thoughtful review or referring them to others is a great way to show appreciation!
Essential Tip #2
Check those contracts! Some vendors—think catering, bar service, and transportation—add gratuity right into the bill. But here’s the kicker: a “service charge” isn’t the same as a tip! That extra fee could be covering venue upkeep or admin costs, not going to the hardworking staff. So before you assume the tip’s covered, ask where that money’s going. If you don’t see “gratuity” spelled out, you might still need to show your appreciation with a little extra love (aka cash)!
Essential Tip #3
Designate someone to take care of tipping vendors for you so you can enjoy your day stress-free. Before your wedding, visit the bank to withdraw cash and place each tip in a labeled envelope. Assign the most responsible member of your wedding party or your Coordinator/Wedding Planner to distribute them throughout the event. While tips can be given at the beginning or end of the day, offering them early can show appreciation upfront and encourage vendors to go above and beyond. Your planner will ensure vendors are well taken care of and feel valued
