Essential Tips on Tipping

Money may be the worst part of wedding planning; budgets, costs, and dreams potentially docked with each dollar sign. After shelling out so much money, tipping can be a touchy topic to discuss. It’s our goal to help you plan for this before you get in too far and the budgets get too tight.

You are never obligated to tip, although sometimes it can be expected. Tips are a way to express your appreciation for especially good service. If a vendor is making your day easier or providing you with a better experience, tips are appreciated.

Vendors who go above and beyond for you value tips, but something as simple as a note or gift is a nice gesture. For instance, the florist who listened to your dreams and did everything in their power to make it a reality; the baker who let you taste multiple flavors or created a design unique to you; a photographer or videographer who kept you laughing and made photos a great memory instead of a chore.

Let us help you with some Essential Tips to help make the gratuity decisions just a little bit easier.

Essential Tip #1

It is common that if the vendor is also the owner of their company it is not expected to tip, but don’t forget about their extraordinary efforts.

Essential Tip #2

Check your contracts. There are many vendors who include their gratuity. This is common for larger vendors: catering, bar service, and/or transportation. Read carefully to avoid double tipping.

Essential Tip #3

Designate someone to take care of tipping vendors for you. These can be distributed at the beginning of the day, or at the end. Sometimes realizing the appreciation to service at the beginning of the day ensures your vendors will go above and beyond for you all day long.

Your Day Of Coordinator / Wedding Planner is the perfect person for this task. They will ensure that the vendors are well taken care of, have everything they need, and make sure they feel your appreciation!
